Doug Spires - Minister of Music

When did you come to Calvary?
September 8, 2008

Brief Personal Biography:
When I was 7 years old, my family moved to Malawi, Africa where my parents served as IMB missionaries for 6½ years.  I consider my upbringing as a missionary kid one of the best things that ever happened to me.  However, apart from Jesus, the very best thing that ever happened to me was meeting a beautiful, young lady named Stephanie Burnett at Mississippi College on the first day of freshman orientation!  Four years later we married after graduation and moved to Ft. Worth, Texas for seminary.  Not only did I marry my college sweetheart, but my life-long partner in ministry who laid aside her own aspirations in the Radio/TV newsfield to join me in full time service to the Lord in music ministry.  To us it is a tremendous privilege to serve the Lord as church musicians and to have opportunities week after week to join with other musicians in bringing music offerings to the King of kings!  What an awesome kingdom assignment we have been given!  Our two most precious blessings in life go by the names of Abby (age 6) and Sarah Katherine (age 4).

What’s On My IPod/ CD Player/ 8Track/ Record Player:
Christmas, Christmas, Christmas . . . Sanctuary Choir, orchestra, handbells.  It’s definitely beginning to sound a lot like Christmas in my office!

Favorite Biblical Passage or Called Life Verse:
Proverbs3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
