Today marks the one year anniversary of our church’s Ripple Effect campaign. For those of you who are visiting or have joined recently, the Ripple Effect is a four year capital campaign to raise funds for the renovation of our old Fellowship Hall/Educational Suite.

We thought it would be helpful to provide a few updates on the progress of the campaign and renovation:

▪What is the purpose of the renovation? This renovation helps us to more effectively reach out to our community and to disciple our members through a renovated student ministry center, nursery suite, Sunday school/educational space, and an office suite. This renovation assists us in being good stewards of our facilities. ▪What is the total amount pledged to the four year campaign? $3,873,525 ▪What is the total amount given to the campaign as of date? $1,820,631 (47%) ▪What is the total cost of the construction? $4,295,986 ▪What are the plans to account for the short fall between the pledge amount and the total cost of construction? We have already seen new members that have joined Calvary since the beginning of the Ripple Effect campaign begin to give to the vision. We pray for and anticipate that trend to continue in the next three years. We also have begun with this year’s budget to include payments to account for the anticipated difference from our budget. ▪When is the Anticipated Completion Date of the Renovation? September/October Thank you for being a church that gives sacrificially. I am confident that this renovation will assist us in accomplishing what God desires to do in and through Calvary in the days ahead.

This morning we celebrate the ministry of Steve Hurt. We say thank you to both Steve and Debbie for over two decades of faithful ministry at Calvary. Today we look back and are reminded of the countless acts of service that Steve has given throughout his ministry among us.

Steve was the first Calvary staff member that I met before coming as your pastor. Over four years ago, I met Steve in the seclusion of Calvary’s missionary home to talk about ministry at Calvary. From that very first meeting I recognized in Steve an obvious love, care, and commitment to his church. To say that Steve is a people person is quite the understatement. Steve’s ministry hasn’t first and foremost been the execution of programs and strategies, although that has been done and done well. First and foremost though, his ministry has been a ministry of serving, laughing, singing, and living together.

During his tenure (which is 5 times the average tenure of a Southern Baptist staff member), Steve has worn numerous hats with grace and with skill. With his retirement, we as a church will miss his readiness to do what needs to be done. Steve has served, often behind the scenes, in the details of the discipleship and outreach of our church. But the blessing in the midst of his retirement is the simple fact that while he will no longer wear the title of “Minister of Education,” his ministry will continue.

Thanks Steve for all that you have done and will continue to do. We love you and your family.

Missions Corner

This summer, we will participate in this ministry as we help with the Family Fest. Family Fest is a hands-on mission project designed to help families connect with one another while doing missions, and is open for families with children six years and older. Volunteers will participate in a variety of ministry projects in Memphis, July 7-13, 2012. The types of ministries will include light construction and repairs, servant ministries, evangelism, elder care, and Backyard Bible Clubs. If you are interested in participating, please contact the church office.

This month we celebrate over 20 years of ministry that Steve Hurt has had as our Minister of Education. With the announcement of his retirement effective at the end of this month, we want to show our appreciation to both Steve and Debbie. Next Sunday morning we will host a reception in Steve and Debbie’s honor from 9:00-9:30 in the FMC game room. You will want to make plans to show your appreciation for their ministry by dropping by the game room. Next Sunday will be a time where you can say thank you for Steve’s faithfulness, versatility, humor, and servant heart. As Steve has said before, this is not saying good-bye as much as it is a transition from one season of ministry to the next.

As we continue in the spirit of this transition, you will want to be in prayer for the Associate Pastor Search Committee. In the months ahead we will prayerfully be in search for the person who will serve in many of the roles that Steve has held in the past. Be in prayer for the committee which is comprised of Sadie Buchanan, Jerry Napier, Wilson Long, John Wheeler, and John Benjamin. If you have individuals that you think would be a great asset to the ministry of Calvary, feel free to send their name and where they are currently serving to ymerrit@calvarytupelo.com. The search committee is in the process of fielding potential candidates through the end of this month.

So it is a transitional time in the life of our church. It is a time where we celebrate the ministry of Steve. It is also a time where we pray that God will lead us in the days ahead.

From Your Pastor,

Today we worship as a church in the third week of Lent. Why do we talk so much about Lent around here at Calvary? As your pastor, I believe it is important for us to be connected to the rich tradition of our broad Christian heritage.

Bobby Giles reminds us that “Lent, throughout church history, is a time for repentance, for acknowledging that our bodies and this earth are suffering under the curse of sin, and for confessing our need for Christ to save and redeem us by dying on the cross. Moving through Lent is a strategic time for us to be reminded of the context for Easter which makes the celebration of Christ’s resurrection all the more joyful.” Too often we get to the empty tomb of resurrection Sunday without fully being reminded of the path that led our Savior to the cross of Good Friday.

As we travel through this Lenten season, let us be reminded that the point of Lent is to rehearse the why of the cross: to acknowledge our frailty and our fallenness. As we see our sinful state we are once again reminded that Christ alone is our only hope for salvation.

Family Fest

This past Sunday, George and Cathy Chinn reported on the work associated with the Mississippi River Ministry. This summer, we will participate in this ministry as we help with the Family Fest.

Family Fest is a hands-on mission project designed to help families connect with one another while doing missions, and is open for families with children six years and older. Volunteers will participate in a variety of ministry projects in Memphis, July 7-13, 2012. Calvary Loves Carver

Our first work day for Calvary Loves Carver will be Monday, March 12, 2012. We will need able hands and strong backs to clear brush from the school grounds. The principal’s goal is to have the grounds clear enough so that the students can enjoy the shade of the trees, and the teachers will feel safe when they have to work after school hours. Adults, youth & even children who are able to help can join us at 9 am at Carver school. Please bring gloves, rakes, and long sleeves!

Missions Corner

The Week of Prayer for North American Missions and the Annie Armstrong Easter offering begins today. The theme for 2012 Week of Prayer for North American Missions, based on Mark 2: 1-5, is

Whatever it Takes. We are asked by our loving Father to do “whatever it takes” to bring this nation to Him. Our goal at Calvary for the Annie Armstrong offering is $20,000, and we must lovingly give to support our North American missionaries.

To begin our emphasis at Calvary, tonight we will welcome George and Cathy Chinn to our church. Since January 2011 they have been serving as the regional coordinators for the Mississippi River Ministry. After George retired from teaching high school and Cathy retired from a social work career, they joined the Missions Service Corps where they served from 2001 through 2010. The Chinns have taken over 30 international mission trips, along with numerous mission endeavors in the USA.

Join us tonight as they share how God is opening doors and using Annie Armstrong funds to allow Southern Baptists to minister to people through the Mississippi River Ministry. Then plan to participate in this ministry this summer through Family Fest 2012 in Memphis, Tennessee,

July 7-13, 2012.

Next Sunday we will welcome George and Cathy Chinn to Calvary. They are serving as Mississippi River Ministry Regional Coordinators. Mississippi River Ministry, a Southern Baptist ministry, is a partnership of the area’s eight state conventions (Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Tennessee), the North American Mission Board and Woman’s Missionary Union. Southern Baptists are working together to provide ministries, evangelize, strengthen existing churches and start new churches in 196 counties and parishes of the MRM region.

Bert currently serves as the Director of Marriage, Family, and Pastoral Ministries at American Family Association. As a pastor of local churches (most recently West Jackson Street), Bro. Calvary Loves Carver

Calvary Loves Carver is a new local missions initiative for Calvary members. As we come alongside the Carver School faculty & students, we can bring hope to kindergarten students by serving as mentors & tutors. We can give encouragement to faculty who are pouring their lives into the students. And we can help build pride in the school by helping on the grounds.

We need church members who are willing to be Breakfast Buddies, Lunch Buddies, or mentors during weekday mornings or afternoons. If you would like to find out how you can be a part of this local missions effort, contact Dickie Rhea at the church office.

Join us this Wednesday evening for our Family Fun Valentine Dinner and Show. Starting at 6:00 in our gym we will enjoy a night of great food, fellowship, and music. In addition, there will be quite a few surprises that you are going to want to see for yourself.

These past months have been a stretching season in the life of our church. We are being stretched with the ministry opportunities that God has placed before us. We are being stretched with the renovation of our facilities. Sometimes we just need to stop, sit back, and laugh. I promise you will.

Dear Calvary Church Family,

Today I am announcing my retirement from Calvary Baptist Church and full-time vocational ministry, effective March 31, 2012. The peace that Debbie and I have about this decision is balanced by the anticipation we both feel as we enter this next season of our lives. Our time and service here with you has been one of great joy, lots of fun, and (as with all of life) seemingly endless transition from one stage to another. We have worshipped, reached out, traveled, planned, celebrated, grieved, married, buried, dedicated, played and sung lots of music, cried, laughed, survived and just about everything else imaginable with you through these years, and in all of this we are forever grateful to have had any positive impact upon your lives. You have certainly loved and cared for us all the way. Those shared experiences have helped to make us (all of us) who we are and have forged relationships and bonds that can never be broken.

The challenges we have faced together through the fire of 1992, pastoral and other staff changes, building programs and just “being the church” have made us stronger and more resilient in our endeavor to be faithful to God’s call on our lives. And now it is time for another challenge. I have always felt and understood that God’s call to serve is dynamic – ever moving and developing since 1972, through seminary and service in six different churches along the way. This time the call is to shift gears and serve from the other side of the pew, from a different perspective.

Calvary is our church home. Tupelo is where we live. We will continue to worship and serve here alongside you. We intend to help you continue to say the same words to those who come Calvary’s way in the future. I don’t know what opportunities for service may come in and around the community, but I will surely not sit idly by and watch the grass grow.

There is much I could say, and much to accomplish before the end of March, so let me close by saying Thank You to a wonderful staff team: David Eldridge and the rest of the ministerial staff, the office staff – Rachel Crocker and Yvonne Merritt in particular; to all who have served alongside me with Senior Adults, and every one of you who ever said Yes when I asked for your help over nearly twenty-one years.

As my Dad used to tell me, let’s “make every lick count” as we move forward together.

From Your Pastor,

This month during our Sunday morning services we have emphasized the importance of God’s call on our lives to salvation and then to service. He calls us uniquely for salvation and then empowers and equips us to serve Him in our family, church, and community. This morning we desire to help you realize the vast opportunities for service in and through our church.

Last week you received what we call our “Kitchen List” (if you didn’t receive one there are extra copies available). We call it our Kitchen List because the kitchen is a place of service for the nourishment and growth of others. This is a list of church and community ministries that will prayerfully lead to the salvation and discipleship of others in our church and community.

Today you received a response sheet. Place a check mark by the ministry area that you feel God nudging your heart toward in service. You are not committing to anything this morning, just taking the next step to receive more information.

I know that many of you are already active in a variety of ministries. The goal is not to add another “weight” to your already hefty load of service. If you are already faithfully serving in a ministry, feel free to use this as a guide to help someone else get planted in a place where they can serve.

Jail Ministry Training

Today at 4:00 in A203

“And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded” Matthew 10).

When Jesus sent the disciples into the villages to minister, He sent them in pairs (Luke 10:1). Legally, two witnesses brought truth to facts that were told by witnesses. Two traveling together is better than one traveling alone. That is why we send teams of two (2 men/2 women) into the jails. While one teaches, the other prays for the message, the messenger, and the inmates. Therefore, we need two men each Sunday morning, two women each Sunday afternoon, then two men and two women on Thursday nights to go to the Lee County Detention Centers. Interested? If you would like to participate either as a teacher or a prayer partner, plan to attend the training this afternoon.

This month we are emphasizing the biblical truth that God has uniquely equipped His church for service. You have a God-given call on your life to love God and to love others. One of the ways that we fulfill this call is by serving Him in the church and in our community. This morning you have received our “Calvary Kitchen List.” The kitchen is a place of service—where meals get prepared for the nourishment of others. This kitchen list provides a brief summary of many of the ministries in Calvary and our community. Our prayer as a church staff is that you will seek anew and afresh God’s leadership to your unique place of service. Many of you are already faithfully serving in our church or in our community. Praise God! For others this might be a transitional time where you have phased out of a season of ministry and are currently discerning God’s leadership. For some this could be your first step of service. Look over this list and pray for God’s leadership in your life. As we gather together next week you will hear more about how you can take that next step toward His ministry in and through you.

Jail Ministry Training

In Jude 22-23 we read “And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.” Jail ministers meet many different kinds of people, but we remember Jesus died so each one could receive eternal life. If you would like to participate in Calvary Baptist’s ministry to inmates in the Lee County Detention centers, plan to attend a training on January 29. For more information, contact the church office. Jail training will be at 4 pm in A203.

From The Student Minister

Many of you are quite aware that this past weekend has been our annual Disciple Now weekend here in Tupelo and Lee County. Each year our student ministry partners with approximately 15 other churches in our area to gather for a weekend of community worship and small group teaching. Our students had the great opportunity to worship with 900-1,000 people at the Orchard Friday and Saturday and to break off into specific small groups in host homes provided by Calvary families. Over 12 hours of worship, teaching and conversations in the Word has the opportunity to change lives. This weekend always flies by so quickly but is always so fruitful in the lives of teenagers. As your student minister I am always amazed at how our students respond and even teach us as adults so much through a weekend like this. Getting to spend time with 100 students and 14 fantastic small group leaders is always a joy for me and my family. We are so blessed here at Calvary with students and families that desire to make much of the Gospel in their lives. Undertaking a weekend like this simply cannot happen without the volunteer efforts of so many. Over 60 adults and parents have sacrificially served as host homes, transported students, delivered food, and worked registration. Our greatest thanks go out to all of these for helping make this weekend a huge success. Join us as we worship together at the culmination of this weekend for His Glory!

Monday Rock (Apartment Ministry)

Monday Rock will begin Monday, January 23. If you would like to participate in our apartment ministry as a helper, driver or rider, please contact the church office.

Jail Ministry Training

In Matthew 25 we read “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘… I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, …‘When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” If you would like to participate in Calvary Baptist’s ministry to inmates in the Lee County Detention centers, plan to attend a training on January 29, 2012. From the Minister of Education

How many of the people in the sanctuary each Sunday do you know by name? Sunday School allows us to provide a Small Group for every person in the congregation, providing a more intimate and comfortable setting for Bible study and fellowship. Plus, small group members are much more likely to actually care for and minister to the needs of the others in their group. Within the classes we encourage even smaller groups called Care Groups.

Sunday School at Calvary meets at 9:15 AM each Sunday. You’ll find greeters at the entrances to help guide you into the buildings and answer questions you may have. We have established a permanent Welcome Center in the hallway behind the choir loft area until construction is completed. After that we will locate the Welcome Center at the new main entrance area that is part of the renovation. If you have invited guests to your class, simply bring them to the Welcome Center or arrange to meet them there on Sunday mornings before 9:15 a.m. Hallway signs will help direct you to

A New Year and a Fresh Start:

With the changing of the year, today marks an invitation to a new beginning and a fresh start. It seems that I’ve seen a constant stream of Nutrisystem and Weight Watchers commercials this past week. Many will flirt with resolutions to lose that extra twenty-five pounds, to go back to school, or to break that pesky habit this year. As Christians we do believe in the hope of God’s continual transformation in our lives. As you make your 2012 resolutions let me challenge you to saturate yourself in God’s word this upcoming year. Would you make the commitment to read (or listen) through the entire Bible this upcoming year? In this morning’s sermon I will challenge our church to begin a 2-year Bible reading plan. There are some great tools I want to suggest that will make this a growing experience in our church’s life. I will mention in my sermon a companion book for our Bible reading program entitled: How to Read the Bible Book by Book: A Guided Tour by Gordon D. Fee and Douglas Stuart. For those who like to listen to the Bible on audio, I would recommend the Emmy-winning The Bible Experience collection. The narration is done by some of the most gifted actors and actresses living and the production is superb. In the end, the best suggestion is that this year you just open your Bible everyday and allow it to shape and mold your life. I promise you it will make a life-changing difference.

Missions Corner

With the closing of 2011 and the beginning of a new year, reflections are in order. We talk about being a “Mission-Minded” church, but do our statistics reflect that?

In 2011, over 1000 Calvary members participated in over 40 benevolent, disaster relief, or mission efforts in Tupelo, in Mississippi, in the USA, and in other countries. Many of our members participated in more than one event. In fact, many members participated in more than 5 mission efforts!

In addition to those who went, many of our members prayed for the efforts and the participants, and many gave financially so others could go. Our current total giving to missions for the year is more than 28% of our monies received to date.

So, are we a “Mission-Minded” church? The statistics say “YES.”

LOTTIE MOON SUCCESS STORY

In 1952, a small number of IMB missionaries voted to start a seminary for the purpose of training Malaysian Baptist church leaders. They asked for two additional missionaries for the seminary ministry, and asked for $5000 for the school’s operating expenses. Through the years, the ministry has grown, as has the return on the Lottie Moon investment. This year, there were 138 graduates from that seminary, representing eight different countries including countries in Africa and South America. These church leaders and missionaries will serve around the world. Thank you for your support of the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. The monies continue to go overseas to help our missionaries conduct leadership training of local pastors and lay leaders, purchase Jesus-films in native languages, and develop specialized tracts to be used in witnessing opportunities. The Lottie Moon offering in 1952 is still bringing great returns for the Lord, and our offerings for 2011 will continue to impact the generations that follow.

As you read this article, Danielle and I have prayerfully welcomed Jonathan Lamar Eldridge into our family. (As a disclaimer know that I’m writing this at the beginning of this week). We are in the process of settling into our life as a family of five today. We so look forward to our Calvary family meeting Jonathan in the coming weeks. Thank you for your prayers, care, and support during this exciting time in our life. It really is a joy to share our family’s greatest moments with people we love. This morning we welcome Bro. Dan Robertson to the pulpit. Bro. Dan (my father-in-law) is no stranger to Calvary; he serves as the Associational Director of Missions for the Golden Triangle Region. Previously he has served as International Mission Board missionary to Honduras and as a pastor in Greenville, Pontotoc, and Natchez. My father-in-law is one of the greatest influences in my life and in my development as a minister. I’m sure that you will hear some proud granddaddy stories this morning; just indulge him! Needless to say, let those stories whet your appetite because you will hear a few proud daddy stories in the days ahead; just indulge me!

Lottie Moon Emphasis

As we come to the conclusion of the Week of Prayer for International Missions we do not stop our concern, our giving, and our prayer for missionaries and their endeavor to reach the various people throughout the world. As a Christian each of us is a part of the Body of Christ; therefore, we are HIS HEART, HIS HANDS, HIS VOICE to Tupelo, Lee County, and the world. This Sunday morning we are privileged to welcome Dr. Rebekah Ann Naylor, M.D. to Calvary as our Lottie Moon Christmas Offering speaker. Dr. Naylor, an accomplished surgeon, administrator, and teacher, served 35 years in India as a missionary with the International Mission Board. She worked with the Bangalore Baptist Hospital in addition to establishing churches and developing church leaders all across the country of India. She now works through Baptist Global Response to mobilize Southern Baptists for disaster relief and medical mission efforts. Our Lottie Moon Christmas offering goal this year is $70,000. Additionally, I want to invite you back this evening for our music ministry’s annual Christmas worship experience. This year’s drama is entitled, “An Evening in December: Open for Christmas.” Our music ministry has worked tirelessly to bring us an evening that combines a compelling story with great music. Join us as we are all reminded that Christmas is more than accumulation and materialism; at the heart of Christmas is the story of our savior. Invite a friend and family members as we celebrate God’s gift to us in Christ. There will be two presentations, one tonight and another tomorrow night at 6:00.

As you know, we are blessed at Calvary with great students who are being used by God in remarkable ways. Tonight we have the opportunity to come alongside two of our seniors as they follow God’s call in their lives. We will host Kara Young’s album release concert. Over these past couple of days, I’ve been listening to Kara’s album, Take a Stand. I know you will be blessed hearing Kara’s beautiful and worshipful music. Additionally, tonight we have the opportunity to support Margaret Nance. Margaret is graduating from Tupelo High School a semester early and will be working alongside an IMB missionary family in East Asia for 3 months. You will hear more about her journey of faith and have the opportunity to support Margaret by giving a love offering. Make plans to join us tonight at 6:00 as we support the way God is working in the lives of two of our students. These upcoming weeks you will be hearing about the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. This is our convention’s annual offering that goes to support our approximately 5,000 missionaries on the international field. The national goal is $175 million, and our church goal is $70,000. In the coming days begin planning and praying how you will give to this offering. Will you give for the sake of those who don’t know Him?

Lottie Moon (Foreign Missions) Emphasis

The Lottie Moon Christmas offering was named for Charlotte Digges (Lottie) Moon, one of the early female missionaries in China with the Southern Baptist Convention. Next Sunday you will be able to meet another pioneer missionary with the SBC as Rebekah Ann Naylor, M.D., will be our featured speaker. Dr. Naylor, an accomplished surgeon, administrator and teacher, served 35 years in India as a missionary with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, pioneering the work with Bangalore Baptist Hospital and helping establish churches all across the country of India. She now works through Baptist Global Response to mobilize Southern Baptists for disaster relief and medical mission efforts. She will be sharing her story during the Sunday School hour and will also speak during our morning service. This year’s National Goal is $175 million, and our church goal is $70,000.

This past week you received a proposed 2012 budget for our church via email (copies are also available at all entrances to the sanctuary). This budget is the result of the prayerful study and diligent work of our finance committee in conjunction with various church committees, ministerial staff members, and business administrator. Tonight during our Sunday evening service our finance committee chairperson, Elizabeth Hamm, will overview the details and answer any questions concerning the budget. We should thank our finance committee for the hours they spent in preparing this budget. Tonight we will discuss the budget and next Sunday morning we will vote on it. Also I want you to save an upcoming date on your calendar. As you know, we are blessed at Calvary with great students who are being used by God in remarkable ways. Next Sunday evening, November 27^th, we have the opportunity to come alongside two of our seniors as they follow God’s call in their lives. That evening we will host Kara Young’s album release concert. Over these past months Kara has had the opportunity to record her first album Take a Stand, and we as a church will be able to hear it live and support her in this exciting step of faith. Additionally, that evening we have the opportunity to support Margaret Nance. Margaret is graduating from Tupelo High School a semester early and will be working alongside an IMB missionary family in East Asia for 3 months. We will be able to hear more about this journey of faith and have the opportunity to support Margaret by giving a love offering that evening. Join us next Sunday evening as we celebrate how God is directing and calling out two of our own in exciting ways.

This past Tuesday evening Danielle and I were thankful for a night out and went to see the movie Courageous. I know I’m a bit late to the “Courageous bandwagon,” but there seem to be a few seats left so here I go jumping right aboard. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Courageous, the movie is the fourth (and best) of the movies produced by Sherwood Baptist Church. By far it is the most accomplished “Christian movie” that I’ve seen. The opening action scene grabs you emotionally from the start and sets the stage for what is to come. The plot revolves around four police officers and a commitment that they make to be the fathers and husbands God has called them to be. The movie is not perfect. I’m doubtful that the producers and actors of the movie will be in the running for an Oscar in February. And at times the writers (Alex and Stephan Kendrick) reveal in cheese-ball corniness and clunky dialogue. Yet despite the flaws, I left deeply moved by the realistic depiction of trials, heartbreak, and the character’s journey toward God’s will. It is a movie that has a pulse. It is a movie that connects. Let me recommend that you support and tell others about this movie. It is worth watching for the gospel soaked message present from start to finish. It is a movie that God has used and will continue to use to call men to become more committed, God-centered husbands and fathers. May it be so. . .

This upcoming Tuesday you will have the opportunity to cast your ballot for many elections in our state and community. Our opportunity to vote is a great freedom that should never be blithely taken for granted. We should be informed and prayerful as we vote for our next governor and for other key races. As important as these races are, they are being overshadowed by one controversial amendment on the ballot. The authors of Proposition 26 seek to define life as beginning at conception while protecting the life of the unborn. Throughout these past weeks I have had many conversations within our community about the details and implications of Proposition 26. This morning Calvary has provided a FAQ sheet from the Mississippi Baptist Convention that can be picked up at all sanctuary exits. It is essential that we seek to clearly understand this amendment. The amendment far exceeds the boundaries of the political arena. It addresses the very essence of foundational claims of our Christian tradition. As Christians we believe that every life is valuable because every life is created in the image of God. The Psalmist would declare: “God knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” There has been a flood of discussion in the media and in private conversations about the details and the larger ramifications of this amendment. As citizens and as Christians we should all be discerning and prayerful as we vote our convictions this Tuesday. Blessings, Pastor David

Shoebox Dedication

This year, Operation Christmas Child boxes will be dedicated at Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday, November 13. Items that could be packed in the boxes include: school supplies (pens, pencils, crayons, markers, coloring books, etc.), toys (small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, jump ropes, etc.), hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, washcloth, etc.), hard candy, socks, t-shirts, and gum. You may also wish to include a picture of yourself in the box. Please DO NOT include war-related items (toy guns, knives, etc.), chocolate, liquids, medicines, breakable items or aerosol cans.

Project: Christmas Cards

MS Baptist churches have been asked to assist MS Chaplains in collecting unused Christmas cards for over 3100 inmates. Each inmate will receive 5 cards. These cards will allow inmates to send cards to their friends & family during the holidays. All cards should be received in the church office by Sun., Nov. 13.
